RNLI Birnbeck Pier Somerset Coast
RÖDER S75 as a boathouse for rescue station in the Bristol Channel
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), an independent 24-hour search and rescue service, from the coasts of the United Kingdom and Ireland in use on the high seas. Since its founding in 1824, the lifeguards have saved more than 139,000 people.
Especially in the area of the Bristol Channel the sea can be a dangerous place with strong tidal currents and over 12m high sea level changes.
For one of the life-saving stations on the Somerset coast, on a small island at Weston-super-Mare, RNLI now ordered a storagetent for the two motor lifeboats.
Danco PLC, Bristol, erected the tent camp RÖDER S75 12.5x20m under difficult conditions. The path to the island has only a width of 1m and the weight of the structure parts should not overcharge the safe working load of the condemned bridge. Therefore, all components were individually carried to the construction site.
The island is exposed unprotected to the Atlantic winds, so the S75 has got, in addition to anchoring, water ballast tanks with a weight of one ton per stake.
The new boathouse is now also used as training and work area.
